Product Description Flex camera tripod--Blue
Amazon.com Product Description
The Joby Gorillapod makes taking digital photos more fun than ever. Designed with self-timer photography in mind, the Gorillapod lets you mount your camera just about anywhere you want so that you can include everyone in your automatic shots. All you need to do is use the universal 1/4-20 screw to attach your camera to the standard tripod mount, then wrap the three flexible segmented legs securely to a nearby tree branch, fence, park bench, or anything else that's convenient. Say goodbye to holding your camera at arm's length to take a photo of yourself and your friends--now you can be free to pose however you like! Durable and innovative, the Gorillapod weighs just 1.6 ounces, or 45 grams, and can support cameras weighing up to 12.5 ounces, or 335 grams. Measuring just under six inches in length, the Gorillapod fits easily into any purse, backpack, or even jacket pocket.

Great at doing what I need. July 30, 2010 R. Bouas (South Korea) This little guy is handy to carry around on just about any trip with the camera. It worked well to steady my camera for night shots and always gave me a place to stand my little guy for selftimer group shots. Plus, it's easy to use. This is going on every trip.
Beautiful idea, cheap and flimsy implementation. July 29, 2010 A. Daniel Yavuzkurt (Cambridge, MA, USA) I have used this gorillapod for about a year and a half; for $25 that's not a great lifespan (I'm a student on a budget). I can't fault Eastern Mountain Sports for being helpful with an exchange when the first one broke after a month, but the second one developed the same problem: weak ball joint sockets.
After only careful use (ie, not grabbing and twisting it like a chimp), the plastic sockets inevitably crack, and then that joint becames weak and bends too easily, letting even small cameras flop over. The problem always starts at the three fixed sockets near the head, but it can happen to any socket if it's accidentally bent a little too far; the socket cracks and the ball pops out, and that joint becomes useless.
So... great for casual travel use, when you're on the go and don't want to carry a full-size tripod - it can grab onto ledges, lampposts, signposts, etc., making shake-free shots or HDR triplet shots easy. But it's so flimsy and easily broken that I can't recommend it for climbing, hiking, biking, or any use in which the legs might inadvertently be bent too far or pulled out (it only takes a little pressure to ruin a joint).
If it were a generic product made in China and sold for $5, I'd probably give it a four-star review for good price - but at $25, it's an overpriced piece of plastic that doesn't last. Wait till the company's patent expires and cheap knockoffs appear; then you can choose between price and performance. The current model hasn't really got either.
I'd love it if they came out with an aluminum or titanium version, though!
A Neat Little Device July 27, 2010 K. Groh (Pennsylvania) I've been doing amateur photography for 30 plus years. I have a standard fold-out, expandable tripod that is just too bulky for most uses. This little device attaches to your camera and can either act as a stand alone tripod or can wrap its little bumpy arms around something else to hold itself in odd places. I used it on the back of a chair to photograph some fireworks. It worked great and allowed me to keep the camera still.
I coupled it with PRO SERIES Equivalent CANON RS-60E3 Wireless Remote Switch for Digital Rebel T1i / T2i / Xsi / XS / XTi / XS & PowerShot G10 / G11 Digital Cameras and I had complete hands free shutter control.
It is smaller than I thought it would be, only about 6" long so it will travel well in a smaller camera bag. I didn't think it would have enough power to hold up my Canon PowerShot G11 10MP Digital Camera with 5x Wide Angle Optical Stabilized Zoom and 2.8-inch articulating LCD but it works great, has flexibility but a lot of tension to keep things in place.
I'm sure I'll be finding a lot more uses for it down the road.
sturdy mini tri pod for my S90 July 27, 2010 S. Lee (Washington, DC) So far it's a great little accessory to go with my camera, i've tried it on different kind of things, poles, fences etc. and this thing holds up just fine. recommend it if you want a light pod, but good enough for stable shots
great for concerts July 26, 2010 I. Chang i like to film songs at concerts, so holding up a camera for 5minutes with your arm in the air gets tiring. i purchased this tripod so i would not have to extend my arm. works like a charm. i just need a remote for my camera now...
