Just read it! July 17, 2010 Josh At first when I bought this I kept it on my camera, and it works great its extremly portable, and easy to use... except about a week after buying it..it actually became permanently attached to my Canon Rebel XSi.. The pole itself would spin but the circular piece at the top was so tight it would not turn to the point where I had to actually stap the monopod off.. at which poit the screw was still lodged in my camera . I had to actually take a wrench to loosen it...I managed to fix the monopod, but its never going on my camera again!
cheap junk July 11, 2010 Walter A. Holt (HAVRE DE GRACE, MD, US) Your better off spending a little more and get a good monopod. I had mine for 3 months before my ball head wouldn't screw off of the top. The screw used to fasten to your camera or head is round, smooth at the end and encased by plastic. After you tighten your device to it over a short period of time the main screw will come loose from the plastic and you will not be able to remove your camera or head from the monopod. I wound up having to take it apart and use a saw to cut the top down to the screw, remove the plastic top and use a pair of pliers to get the screw loose from my ball head. Scratch one monopod.
Something you can get at Walmart for photography that doesn't suck June 11, 2010 Martin (Cleveland) This is a surprisingly good mono-pod for the price. I paid 15 dollars for it at Walmart. It looks professional, is made of aluminum, and has a standard metal screw mount that will fit most (if not all) slr's. It of course is not nearly as sturdy as a pro aluminum pod or carbon fiber pod, but since a monopod needs hand support anyway I honestly don't think it makes much difference in practice. There is no quick release or anything like that, but I might look into getting a cheap head with qr for it. The locking joints are plastic, but seem to hold up just fine for now if you treat them right. Honestly for 15 bucks you could replace this 5 times and not pay what you would for a "pro" monopod from many companies. That could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on how much photography you do.
If you need a monopod now and don't need a professional model then use this. For most circumstances this will do the same things a pro monopod does.
price: great
looks: surprisingly good
durability: very, very good for something so cheap. Everything is relative if you are going to compare to pro pods.
features: okay, but needs a head.
My XT & 70-200mm Mount Just Fine! April 14, 2010 Jerry A Just picked mine up from Wal-Mart yesterday and got nervous reading about undersized mounting screw.
For my Canon gear, mine screws on just fine, no problems. I measured the thread on the monopod; it measured .242 inches for the outside diameter. This is just about perfect, about in the middle of the allowable range for a 1/4" external thread, according to the machinist's handbook. You can't beat the price of about $15, or the apparent quality with aluminum sections. This is sturdy enough to double as a Billy Club, if need be! Recommended highly.
Great, sturdy monopod for a great price January 8, 2010 H. J. Groves (Furlong, PA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I actually got this monopod at WalMart last spring when I forgot to pack mine for my daughters soccer tournament. Loved it so much I've completely switched over to this one. Great height and sturdy/comfortable. Easy to use. I read comments in the other reviews about the threading being the wrong size but I've had no issues. I have a Canon DLSR and have had no problems with it or my video cameras.
