4 out of 5 stars Nice tripod   April 29, 2010

It is a good tripod, and it definitely worth the money. I would like to recommend it to anyone who doesn't have budget for a better one.

I have to say that I was a little dubious as to the quality of this tripod before it arrived...
...However I'm very pleased with this tripod indeed!
Having been a working professional photographer for 20+ years I've worked with some wonderful high-end equipment.
This baby gives them a great run for their money indeed.

It's relatively light and yet feels quite sturdy. Having independently adjustable legs is a great feature that is rarely found at this price point.
The only drawback on the unit is the plastic leg locks, one wonders how well they will hold up in heavy use...But this unit comes with a ten year guarantee, so there's little to worry about!
It could also use a proper manual, but then again, I don't need a manual to use a tripod!

A superb value for money tripod...Is it a Manfrotto or Gitzo? No. Do I care? Not at all!

4 out of 5 stars Near perfection!   May 10, 2009

Its incredibly easy to spend a small fortune on a good tripod, but its also possible to buy a cheap but poor one. Fortunately the Vista Attaras Tripod is the best bang for you buck.

Its sturdy as a rock! When you put your camera on it can get down low enough to photograph flowers and goes high enough to get over most guardrails.

When I put my Canon Digital Rebel XT 8MP Digital SLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 Lens (Silver) it is secure as anything. That puppy is going nowhere! The independent legs were one of the major features I was looking for and they are amazing!! Plus it comes with a free bag.

My only two complaints are; the head is way too tight when your panning it and in some places too loose. Getting the Camera into the portrait position on the tripod is a major pain. And documentation is really sparse, not really that big a con but still.

I can't figure out what I would want to use the hook for But maybe someday I will need to use it.

Pros
+ Rock solid
+ Free carrying bag
+ Great value
+ Independent legs
+ Very tall
+ Can go really low
+ Has hook?

Cons
- Is a pain to pan with
- Sparse documentation
- Has useless hook?

Initially, I wanted a tripod which would collapse down to a 10"-14" size, have individually-adjustable legs, and be steady when fully extended. And I found one - for just about $640.00...

So I gave up on "compact," and went with all of the _other_ desired traits + a reasonable cost. This is that tripod.

It's built like a tank. A lightweight, aluminium, folding tank - to be sure - but amongst cheap tripods, it's a veritable M1A1.

(Plus, if you're ever attacked by camera-thieves or a pack of somewhat slow wild dogs whilst shooting with this, you can handily bludgeon them into submission or retreat with it. Did I mention that it was big and sturdy?)

It has two spirit levels and a liquid compass; the centre rod unscrews and may be hung upside-down for shots of snake-bellies and the like; the legs are individually adjustable to a ridiculous degree; the quick disconnect disconnects quickly, and only when you want it to.

On the downside, it is stiff as two thick planks screwed together, and if you're planning smooth pans you'd better have plenty of teflon spray lubricant or a Type 'B' personality and some blood-pressure medication ready to hand.

But by God, it *WILL* hold your camera. That it will...

5 out of 5 stars Great Tripod   November 14, 2008

I have had this tripod for 6 months and just love it. I carry it everywhere. My padded case is easy to get in and out of in a hurry. It is light weight and it has all the bells and whistles. I love the hook in the center for weights. For the money I have not seen one better. Many of my photog friends have much more expensive tripods and much bulkier and heavier. They all love mine. I say don't put off the decision to get one, get this one. You will be very happy with it.
