Product Description
The M-Y family of compact products ready to use for the new generations of photographers has been improved with it the carbon version: the 732CY M-Y Carbon Fiber Tripod. The 732CY is great for young photographers who approach for the first time the Manfrotto world. Using a compact DSLR or bridge camera, they would like to have a lighter and more performing product.

| Customer Reviews: Light Manfrotto egs are great for hiking and backpacking July 27, 2010 Hench The Manfrotto 732CY M-Y Carbon Tripod is an awesome lightweight solution for stability in the backcountry. I use this tripod with the Manfrotto 701 fluid head. I think its the lightest fluid head you can get and I use this lightweight setup for shooting video. If your camera weights more than about 6 pounds, ya gotta get the bigger legs.
Best,
Hench
I'm a Manfrotto fan but this is just bad quality. May 19, 2010 E. Flores (Los Angeles) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I own different manfrotto products and I have never minded the premium you pay for their products, but this is tripod is just not manfrotto quality. It literally fell apart in less than a week. I uploaded 3 images (hopefully amazon will allow them to be displayed.)
The tripod is nicely finished, you can just see and feel the precision finishing of the different parts when you hold it. It feels strong but light and looks just beautiful. However, after about 3 days of use one of the legs came off when pulling it to be extended. It could very well just be this tripod alone that was not checked at quality control but nevertheless this is manfrotto we are talking about. It is hard to explain the mechanism they use to attach the legs but they are being held by pressure from a screw from the inside. If you are not mechanically inclined you'd probably would not even attempt to reattach it.
It seems that the quality of the materials is only applied to carbon legs. The part the holds all the legs together is made from a metal that is not as strong as the rest of the unit. In my uploaded pictures you can see how thin is the part that holds this knob in place, about 1/8 diameter cylinder where a screw goes through. I was opening the legs to set it on a table and the knob came off broken as if it was cheap plastic. I had tried to deal with the leg falling off but the broken knob just made it useless.
Unfortunately I started using this thing after the 90 day guarantee expired, at the moment of this review I'm waiting on amazons decision after they receive my return.
Again, hopefully they will allow my images to be displayed so my explanation can make better sense. All my other manfrotto stuff is tough and well built. Not this baby though. I definitely expect better from a 200 + dollar tripod.
Excellent Tripod. High Strength-Weight Ratio! Very Light February 9, 2010 C. Joo Kee (Singapore) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
Just got this tripod last week from Amazon. Its simply marvellous. The weight is a mere 954g after weighting it on my digital scale. Its best paired with the 494RC2 ballhead. I've tried fixing on both the 494RC2 & the 496RC2 on it. But only the 494RC2 fits it perfectly. 496RC2 is too huge, giving an unbalanced feeling.
Rated payload of this tripod: 3.5kg
Rated payload of 494RC2 ballhead: 4kg
Thus, I guess this combi is more than sufficient for a typical consumer to semi-pro user like myself. I'm using the following gears:
Canon 40D + 17-40 F4L + 430 EX ii = 1.8kg.
For tele purpose, assuming I mount my 70-200 F4 IS, the weight of my gear will be approximately 2.1 kg.
So this tripod is more than sufficient for my typical gear that i will be mounting on the tripod. After testing the stability, I'm quite satisfied with it. Thus the total weight of the 732CY tripod and the 494RC2 will be just 1.28kg. This is a highly manageable weight for a small size guy like myself.
My advise to fellow consumers: If you are having a similar set up like mine, get this tripod. Its well-worth it.
Cheers!
