Manfrotto Tripod July 20, 2010 Deployed Civilian A quality product that was delivered as promised. Only issue was shipping to an APO address required a second shipping event from home.
Great Tripod May 30, 2010 Imshyanne (California-SF Bay Area) I have been wanting a quality tripod for some time. When my Manfrotto Carbon Fiber Tripod recently arrived in time for a trip to Yosemite I was delighted. The ease of use is fantastic. I was able to leave the legs extended so I could hop in and out of the car to take pictures of the fabulous falls of Yosemite. I highly recommend this product.
I Love these Legs! April 17, 2010 MP (LAX) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I compared various different tripods for months. I wanted lightweight and different shooting options. These legs fit the bill.
Pros
Lightweight
wide variety of setup options (including the ability to raise the leg)
Can shoot vertical or horizontal. (Center column will raise up and turn horizontal)
Quick release legs (easy to adjust)
Level
Cons
No spike feet for dirt or softer surface
Does not fit in Manfrotto Bag with head attached (I have the joystick)
If weight is an issue or you simply want the best legs, I highly recommend.
I would also recommend going to your local camera shop and trying all the tripods. There are so many options you are sure to find what works best for you. Then come search for the best price (so far for my purchases, Amazon has been consistently the best price).
Should have been my first tripod April 1, 2010 Flannery 626 (Orange County, California) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Like many hobbyist photographers, I've bought too many tripods. Simply put, had I bought this one first, I would have saved money by not owning sub-quality cheaper tripods. It's that simple.
The Manfrotto 190CXPRO4 4-Section Pro Carbon Fiber Tripod without Head is a very nice tripod. It is lightweight, and the Q90 column is an awesome feature that I use more than I thought I would. (For example, for swinging the camera out over a fence rail to get just the right angle, which can't be done with a regular tripod.)
I just got mine from Amazon and I see that the price has gone up by $20 in the last two days. I'm glad that I got the earlier "sale" price. Regardless, this is a nice piece of equipment. I use my tripod almost very time I use my camera because I like taking photos at the beach, near dusk. I've had cheaper tripods but they've always disappointed because of non-durable construction or some other lacking feature. The Manfrotto 190CXPRO4 is different. It is light weight and compact. And it looks great.
The only disappointment so far is that some of the little rubber covers for the screw heads are falling off. While that doesn't affect functionality of the product, it is a small detail that Manfrotto should have taken care of in the construction and design of the tripod.
My recommendation to photographers: Buy the better tripod first. You'll save in the long run.
Light, with an ingenious one knob Lateral Arm mechanism. March 27, 2010 ThomasH (Santa Clara, CA USA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I used to have a large Giottos Universal Tripod with its ability to swing sideways center column into a lateral arm. As I saw this Manfrotto, I was intrigued, and after I handled it at Keeble and Shuhat in Palo Alto, I was stunned by its low weight, stability and ingenuity. As opposed to complex Giottos with several similar looking controls, here one single knob and one push-button at the end of the column is enough to swing the arm. Whereas Giottos arm can fall off, here a safety mechanism stops the column/arm and allows to swing it from one position into another in a few seconds. Fantastic, the 190CXPro4 is my new standard tripod now!
I also like the 3 screws at the bottom of the platform which allow to keep safely the tripod head in place. This resolves the nasty issue with other tripods of head loosening from the tripod in some situations.
Last but not least: The Manfrotto is perfectly finished and well shaped, it is... pretty, very much in the tradition of Italian designers, who have a special gift and talent for crafting pieces of extraordinary beauty. Highly recommended, its the Lamborghini of tripods.
