Reasonably Accurate June 9, 2010 Doug Kaye (Kentfield, CA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I opened the box and placed this cube on my desk, which I know to be level. Whoa! It was way out of level. But then I checked it against an accurate construction level, and I learned the secret. Relative to the hot-shoe (as it's designed to be used) it's reasonably accurate. Where it's *not* accurate is when using the sides of the cube. I'm not sure why it's so far out-of-level using the cube edges, but I guess that doesn't matter in the intended application. On the other hand, it does suggest that there may be unit-to-unit differences, so you should check yours when it arrives.
Sprint Level May 3, 2010 J. W. Reed Works well and does exactly as advertised. I do a lot of night shots where I can't see the viewfinder well and its hard to get the camera level. This little guy work like a charm!
Very useful, but be careful qith quality control April 13, 2010 Rodrigo Teixeira (Portugal) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is the most useful cheap gadget you can get for landscape photography.
It shows correct level in both horizontal and vertical framing, in a very compact design.
However.... the first unit I got was misaligned, but seller 'HDE' promptly sent a replacement unit, no cost, and tested before shipping. (Great seller, by the way, highly recommended).
So, get one, but be very careful about quality control.
Works great if you don't get a leaker! April 8, 2010 Michael K. Milauskas (Maryland, USA) I ordered two of these because Trey Ratcliff swears by them. One arrived OK, but is a very tight fit on my D90. As reviewers noted, the scribe lines could be closer, and there is a noticeable bulge in the chambers.
The other had no liquid in one chamber - the most important one on the top of the cube used for level horizons.
I paid $9.95 for each fulfilled by Amazon (I'm a prime member so shipping was free). Yet 47th Street Photo sells it on Amazon for either 14.95 or 5.59 (+ 2.99 shipping for each), depending on which link shows up. Others sell it for $4.95 + a modest shipping charge of $3-5.
Low ratings because of "bad copies" are frowned upon here, but with six 0-1 star ratings, this product may be an exception.
There was no option to exchange the defective item; only get a refund. Perhaps it is just as well.
Complete garbage March 30, 2010 Bradley J. Reno (Chicago, Il United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I should have read the reviews! This is a very poorly make waste of $10. Not one of the three chambers was level. One was off 4 degrees. Even worse, they were all misshapen and bulging in one way or another. Stay away from anything with the Opteka brand and buy a real level!
Zero stars!
