Targus battery grip for Nikon D40/40X/d60 July 14, 2010 Man W. Louie This battery grip is sharp looking and make Nikon d40 camera more professional. I am used to handle a larger size camera and this battery grip provide addition gripping area. Also with 2 batteries, shooting time also increase, which is helpful for colder weather and extensive use of VR Lenses.
It fits the D3000 too!!! July 12, 2010 MattBRO I just purchased this grip from Amazon the other day. First off, AMAZON rocks because it was shipped crazy fast so I was stoked when it showed up on my doorstep a day before I expected it!
The grip fit snuggly against the bottom of the camera and fits smoothly along the whole camera except the front corner but is is minimal and doesnt get in the way at all. Some other reviews indicated that the grip didnt feel good, I disagree. It feels comfortable and I havent noticed any slipping. I was shooting bridals this weekend and it was about 95 degrees out. We were all sweating and the grip didnt slip at all.
The D3000 is the smallest in the Nikon DSLR lineup and this grip makes it much easier for my fat hands to hold it. I am not overly impressed with the vertical shutter release because it doesnt have a 2 stage shutter release to set the auto-focus. However, I learned that you can program the AE-L button near the viewfinder to act as a auto-focus button so now when I use my vertical release, I just push the AE-L button with my left thumb and then everything works splendidly!
I would absolutely recommend this to anyone with a D3000. Be sure to buy a 2nd battery. I havent used the adapter to utilize the 6AA batteries because the 2 nikon batteries have lasted for 2 weeks now with no recharge and I have shot nearly 900 pictures in that time. But its a nice back-up to have.
Worked well for over a year June 30, 2010 LDRider Don (Michigan, USA) I have had this battery grip on my Nikon D-60 for over a year and have never had one minute of problems. I get over 1800 shots between charges. I forget to charge the batteries so having two helps. I also like the AA insert that goes along with the grip. If I cannot get somewhere and recharge, I can almost always buy AA batteries to get through the day.
I hope my wife don't read this, but yes I dropped my camera once and it landed on the grip. No damage from a 4 foot fall.
After the first couple times, I never used the vertical option. It doesn't auto-focus and its just as easy to hold my hand on top. Again, I have this grip for the long intervals between charging. Also helped the camera fit my hands better.
ATTENTION D3000 USERS!!! June 26, 2010 Hammerhead IT WORKS PERFECT ON THE D3000!!!! IT FEELS GREAT & LOOKS PROFESSIONAL, WHEN YOU FIRST GET IT OUT OF THE PACKAGE yOU MIGHT BE DISSAPOINTED BUT...DONT BE...IT FEELS CHEAP(WELL ITS ONLY $30) BUT DON'T LET THAT GET TO YOU. YOU EEL FEEL THE DIFFERENCE WHEN ATTACHED TO THE CAMERA BODY...IT IS WORTH IT...NOTE: IN ORDER TO USE THE VERTICAL SHUTTER YOU NEED TO GO TO THE REMOTE SETTINGS IN YOUR D3000 & SWITCH TO QUICK REMOTE...I advised you to go to the link I put in here on youtube and watch that video it is very helpful(thanks god for reviews!!!!) Worth about $25 not a cent more. June 18, 2010 stlmike I bought this grip for one reason. I am a big guy and my Nikon d5000 felt a little small in my hands. I wanted some thing to give it a little more heft or at least a little more bulk. Out of the pack this grip feels very flimsy and cheaply made. If I would have paid the $130 that the company seems to imply is the msrp or even the $69 my local wal-mart has it for i would have been upset. The $28 plus shipping I paid was ok but I was a little disappointed.
I do want to say that after I got the batteries in it did pick up some heft a lost some of that cheap hollow sound it had when handling. It also added enough bulk to the camera to make it feel real nice in my hands. If the grip would have been much heavier it may have made the camera to heavy so maybe the light construction feel was deliberate for function. Many folks are expressing concern that the camera will not recognize the batter through the grip. I did have this problem when using generics but when I switched to Regular Nikon batteries all was fine.
